ABOUT CAMPO ELISEO

Nestled in the heart of Spain’s renowned Rueda and Toro regions, Campo Elíseo represents the perfect blend of tradition and innovation. This boutique winery is the result of a collaboration between two iconic winemakers, François Lurton from Bordeaux and Dany and Michel Rolland, internationally acclaimed enologists. Their shared vision is to craft exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir and viticultural potential of these Spanish regions. The name "Campo Eliseo," translating to "Elysian Fields," evokes a sense of paradise, perfectly reflecting the winery's pursuit of excellence.

The winery focuses on producing wines that express the distinct characteristics of the regions’ soils, climate, and indigenous grape varieties. In Rueda, Campo Eliseo produces exceptional Verdejo white wines, which are celebrated for their vibrant acidity, aromatic intensity, and elegance. In Toro, the focus shifts to the robust Tinta de Toro (a local clone of Tempranillo), resulting in powerful yet refined red wines. Both regions benefit from extreme continental climates and diverse soils, elements that are meticulously respected and reflected in the winemaking process.

Campo Eliseo seamlessly integrates modern technology with age-old winemaking techniques to create wines of unparalleled quality. The winery utilizes gravity-fed systems to handle grapes gently and maintains temperature-controlled cellars for optimal fermentation and aging conditions. In Rueda, the Verdejo grapes are often fermented in oak barrels, adding complexity and depth to the wine, while in Toro, long maceration periods and aging in French oak bring out the full potential of the Tinta de Toro grapes. Every step of the process is carefully monitored, ensuring that each bottle represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship.

Over the years, Campo Eliseo wines have garnered international acclaim for their balance, complexity, and expression of terroir. They embody the dedication and expertise of their creators, offering wine enthusiasts a true taste of Spain’s finest viticultural regions. Beyond their exceptional wines, the winery plays a vital role in preserving the heritage and promoting the global reputation of Rueda and Toro. Campo Eliseo is more than a winery; it is a testament to the art of winemaking and a symbol of collaboration across borders, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of fine wines.

ABOUT TORO

The Toro appellation, located in the Castilla y León region of northwestern Spain, boasts a winemaking history that dates back over 2,000 years. Renowned for its robust red wines, Toro has long been associated with high-quality viticulture, thanks to its unique combination of climate, soils, and indigenous grape varieties. The region's reputation for excellence grew during the Middle Ages when Toro wines were widely exported and even served at royal banquets. Today, Toro is recognized as a Denominación de Origen (DO), underscoring its significance in the Spanish wine landscape.

Toro's terroir is defined by its harsh continental climate, characterized by scorching hot summers, cold winters, and minimal rainfall. These extreme conditions, coupled with its sandy and clay-rich soils, create an environment ideal for growing the region’s signature grape, Tinta de Toro. This local variant of Tempranillo is known for its thick skins, which contribute to the wines’ deep color, rich tannins, and robust structure. Many vineyards in Toro feature old, ungrafted vines, some over a century old, which yield grapes of exceptional concentration and complexity.

The wines of Toro are celebrated for their power, intensity, and longevity. Tinta de Toro produces bold red wines with flavors of ripe black fruit, spice, and earthy undertones, often balanced by refined oak aging. While traditionally known for their full-bodied and muscular character, modern winemaking techniques have introduced a more polished style, making Toro wines accessible to a wider audience without sacrificing their authentic expression. The region's commitment to quality has attracted both established and emerging winemakers, solidifying Toro’s reputation as a world-class appellation with wines that resonate on the global stage.

ABOUT RUEDA

The Rueda appellation, located in the heart of Castilla y León in northwestern Spain, is renowned as one of the country’s premier white wine regions. Officially recognized as a Denominación de Origen (DO) in 1980, Rueda has built its reputation on crafting vibrant and aromatic white wines, primarily from the indigenous Verdejo grape. This region's winemaking history stretches back centuries, with records of viticulture dating to the 11th century. Today, Rueda is celebrated for its modern interpretations of Verdejo that marry tradition with innovation.

Rueda’s success as a white wine region is largely due to its unique terroir and climate. Situated on a high plateau, the area experiences a continental climate marked by hot summers, cold winters, and significant diurnal temperature variation. This helps the grapes develop both ripe fruit flavors and crisp acidity. The soils, a mix of gravel and limestone with excellent drainage, contribute to the complexity and minerality of the wines. While Verdejo is the star of the region, other varieties like Sauvignon Blanc and Viura are also cultivated, often blended to create distinctive expressions.

Rueda wines are known for their freshness, aromatic intensity, and versatility. Verdejo, the flagship grape, produces wines with vibrant notes of citrus, green apple, and herbs, often accompanied by a slight nuttiness and a characteristic bitter finish. Winemakers in the region employ a range of techniques, from stainless steel fermentation to barrel aging, allowing for a diverse range of styles—from light and refreshing to complex and textured. These qualities have made Rueda a favorite among wine lovers globally, earning it a well-deserved reputation as Spain’s go-to region for high-quality white wines.
