ABOUT BODEGAS PEREZ BARQUERO

Bodegas Pérez Barquero is one of the most prestigious and renowned wineries in Spain. Considered the leading producer in the Montilla-Moriles appellation, Pérez Barquero was founded in 1905 by 3 brothers from Aragón (Northern Spain). The winery’s oldest solera dates from this year – and there are indeed still some bottles available!

Under the direction of cellar master Rafael Córdoba, Pérez Barquero has built an international reputation as one the top sherry producers, earning numerous awards, including the only 100-Point rating from the Wine Advocate for a sherry. Their vineyards are located in the most valued high-quality zones of the Sierra de Montilla and Moriles Alto, where the substratum is very rich in organic remains, allowing for optimal ripening of their grapes. Unlike producers from Jerez, who use Palomino as the main grape for their wines, Pérez Barquero's wines are all made with Pedro Ximenez.

ABOUT MONTILLA-MORILES

D.O. Montilla-Moriles is the brother of D.O. Jerez. Both regions have a common tradition and produce similar wines, but Montilla’s location about 100 miles inland, benefits from more drastic diurnal shifts, less rainfall and particularly hot summers. Its wines are able to reach 15% of alcohol without fortification, adding complexity with a smoother profile. The soils are the same bright white albariza, cherished for the sunlight it reflects back up into the vine while not holding in heat at night.
